JAWS Saying “Misspelled” When Typing or Reading
When JAWS says “misspelled” as you type or read, it is alerting you that a word is marked as a spelling error in the application you are using. This is a helpful feature for proofreading, but it can be distracting if you do not want to hear these announcements. This feature can be disabled by following the below steps in the affected program, i.e. Word, Outlook or Notepad.
- With focus in the application, press INSERT+6 to open up the JAWS Settings Center.
- In the Search field, type the word “spell”.
- Tab once and down arrow to “Detect Spelling While Navigating” and press the spacebar till you hear “off”.
- Tab to the OK button and press the spacebar.
You can apply the above steps to reenable the announcement of the word “misspelled”.
