Important Changes to JAWS, ZoomText & Fusion Software Licensing

Good day JAWS, ZoomText and Fusion users

Below are important updates regarding the licensing and pricing of JAWSZoomText and Fusion software, as communicated by the manufacturer. Going forward, there will be two licensing options available to all clients. We encourage all clients to carefully review these changes and consider the best option for their ongoing needs.

  1. Perpetual Licenses (Now with mandatory 2 Years Time-Bound SMA)

As always, you can still purchase a perpetual license, which gives the user lifetime access to the software. However, from now on:

  • All perpetual licenses must now include a mandatory Software Maintenance Agreement (SMA), which grants access to all updates and upgrades for two years from the date of issue.
  • This means you will own your software and also receive all updates released within 2 years from date of issue.
  • After the 2-year SMA period ends, you will still be able to use your software – however, upgrades will no longer be available unless you purchase a new license or move to subscription. Refer to point 4 below.
  • To ensure your perpetual license remains eligible for future versions beyond the initial SMA period, the SMA must be renewed before the expiry date.
  • You may extend your SMA to a maximum of four years by adding an additional SMA.
  1. Key Change: SMA’s Are Now Time-Bound

In the past, Software Maintenance Agreements (SMAs) were version-based. SMA agreements are now time-bound, rather than tied to specific software versions as in the past.

  • The SMA begins on the date your license or SMA is issued and runs for two years.
  • You are entitled to all updates and upgrades released during this period.
  • To ensure your perpetual license remains eligible for future versions beyond the initial period, the SMA must be renewed before the expiry date.
  • Important: Once the SMA expires, you will no longer be able to extend or renew it. If you wish to upgrade in the future, you will need to either:
    • Buy a new perpetual license with 2 Years Time-Bound SMA, or
    • Move to a subscription-based license model.
  1. Subscription Licenses (1, 2, or 3-Year Options)

For those preferring a subscription model, you can now purchase:

  • 1-year, 2-year, or 3-year subscription
  • The license will expire exactly one, two, or three years after activation.
  • After expiration, access to the software will end until the subscription is renewed.
  1. Upgrade Deadline for Existing Perpetual License Holders

If you already own a perpetual license, this is your final opportunity to upgrade your software:

  • If you are currently using version 2025 or an outdated version, which does NOT have an active SMA (with future upgrades remaining), you would need to upgrade and/or add an SMA to stay current.
  • Upgrade orders must be received by us no later than 24 October 2025 to ensure processing before the manufacturer’s hard deadline of 31 October 2025.
  • Before 31 October to ensure your version is current, you must be licensed for version 2025 with at least one future version (2026) available.
  • After 31 October 2025, if you did not opt for upgrading and/or adding a SMA, upgrades will no longer be available under the old model and your outdated license will not be eligible for upgrades or SMA additions. In this case, to continue having access to future versions, you will need to either:
    • Buy a new perpetual license with 2 Years Time-Bound SMA, or
    • Move to a subscription-based license model.
